SME Backups — full verification, disaster recovery

A backup that doesn't work counts for nothing.

Many SMEs think they have backups but have never tested them. NEXUS AGENCE implements a 3-2-1 strategy (three copies, two media, one off-site), documents the recovery plan and tests it for real, even in case of total loss.

Three approaches based on size

Every business has different data needs.

A solo shop doesn't need what a multi-location SME does. We adapt the strategy to your reality: volume, data sensitivity, budget, IT complexity.

Light SME

For a small business: 100–500 GB of data, few servers.

  • Daily local backups (external drive).
  • Real-time cloud backup (AWS/Azure).
  • Monthly restore verification.
  • Email alerts on errors.

Starting at $600 (setup)

Standard SME

For established business: 500 GB–2 TB, local or hybrid servers.

  • Incremental backups 2–3 times daily.
  • Local mirror + cloud archive + off-site drive.
  • Quarterly full restore test.
  • Backup monitoring dashboard.

Starting at $1,500 (setup)

Critical SME

For business that can't lose an hour: 2 TB+, multiple locations.

  • Real-time replication to backup servers.
  • Automatic failover on failure.
  • Long-term archiving versioned monthly.
  • 24/7 monitoring and immediate alerts.
  • Monthly restore test and reports.

Starting at $3,000 (setup + $500–800/month)

Practical questions

What SMEs often ask about backups.

What is the 3-2-1 rule?

3 copies of your data. 2 different media (ex: local server + cloud). 1 copy stored outside your business (ex: AWS). It's the best practice for surviving any disaster: fire, power loss, ransomware attack.

How much does cloud storage cost?

Depends on volume and access frequency. Light SME: $50–100/month. Standard SME: $150–300/month. NEXUS AGENCE negotiates with vendors and presents options before committing.

Who keeps the access keys?

You keep the master keys. NEXUS AGENCE sets up the tools, but only you access the data. If NEXUS AGENCE disappears, your backups remain yours and stay restorable.

How long to restore?

Light SME: 2–4 hours. Standard SME: 4–8 hours. Critical SME: <1 hour (with automatic failover). That's why we test. A 2-day restore costs more than a good backup.

Should we keep old drives?

Yes, at least 2–3 external drives, numbered and stored separately (one with you, one with a friend, one in a safe). Sounds old-school, but it works when the cloud is unavailable.

What if I must keep data for 7 years?

Some professions (accountant, notary) must retain records 7 years. We configure cloud archiving versioned monthly in an immutable container. Data remains accessible but protected against accidental deletion.
